How to Enable and Verify Page Caching with Breeze on Cloudways

Learn how to enable page caching in the Breeze plugin on Cloudways and check that your WordPress pages are served from cache. Simple steps, no coding.

Written by Syed Abuzar Mehdi

Page caching saves a ready-made copy of your web page, so your site loads faster. Breeze is the free caching plugin from Cloudways for WordPress.

In this article, you will learn how to turn on page caching in Breeze and how to check that it works. You do not need any technical knowledge.

What Is Page Caching?

A cache is a saved copy of something. Page caching means saving a finished copy of a web page.

Without page caching:

  • WordPress builds the page again for every visitor.

  • It reads the database and runs PHP code each time.

  • This uses more server resources and can slow your site down, especially when many people visit at once.

With page caching:

  • Breeze builds the page once and saves a static copy.

  • Each new visitor gets the saved copy.

  • Your server does less work and your pages load faster.

(PHP is the programming language that WordPress runs on. A static copy is a finished page that does not change until it is refreshed.)

How to Enable Page Caching in Breeze

  • Log in to your WordPress Admin Panel.

  • Go to Settings > Breeze.

  • Click the Basic Options tab.

  • Check the box next to Cache System.

  • Click Save Changes.

Page caching is now on. Cache System is the main page caching setting in Breeze. Other caching features depend on it.

Note:
Clicking Save Changes in Breeze also sends a request to clear the cache. You do not need to clear it again by hand.

How to Verify That Page Caching Is Working

You can check this by looking at the page source. The page source is the code behind a web page. You only need to find one comment in it.

  • Open your website in your browser.

  • Right-click anywhere on the page.

  • Click View Page Source.

  • Look for the Breeze cache comment in the code.

What the result means:

  • Comment is present: The page was served from cache. Caching is active for this page.

  • Comment is missing: The page was not served from cache. See the section “What to Do If You Cannot See the Cache Comment” below.

Tip: Press Ctrl + F (Windows) or Cmd + F (Mac) in the page source and search for “Breeze” to find the comment quickly.

Does One-Click Optimization Enable Page Caching?

No. One-Click Optimization does not turn on the Cache System.

Breeze has three One-Click plans: Standard, Advanced, and Expert. They manage file and asset settings, such as:

  • Gzip compression: makes files smaller before they are sent to visitors.

  • Minification: removes extra characters from code files to make them smaller.

  • Lazy loading: loads images only when a visitor scrolls to them.

  • File combination: joins several files into one.

You must turn on page caching yourself in Basic Options, as shown above.

Important:
The Standard plan includes Browser Cache. Browser Cache is related to caching, but it works differently from page caching. Do not assume that a One-Click plan puts your site in a fully cached state.

What to Do If You Cannot See the Cache Comment

Try these steps in order:

  • Go to Settings > Breeze > Basic Options and confirm that Cache System is checked and saved.

  • Reload the page and check the page source again. The first visit may only create the cached copy.

  • Open a different page of your site. The page you tested may be excluded from caching.

  • Test in a private or incognito browser window.
