Application upgrades require sound technical knowledge and expertise to complete successfully. You need to consider which version you are upgrading from, compatibility issues — whether plugins/extensions that you currently use will be supported in the new version — and a myriad of other tiny, but important, details.

At Cloudways, we provide the tools for you to do it in a safe and controlled manner. You can clone a full server and perform the upgrade in the cloned one. You can clone the application on the same server, and perform the upgrade there. Just never try to do an upgrade directly on your production site!

However, if you lack the skills or the time to face this challenge, we are here to help. Following the few steps described below you can order a managed application upgrade, and we will take care of everything.

How to Request a Managed Application Upgrade

Step 1: Go to Add-Ons

Log into the Cloudways Platform with your credentials. Click on the Grid icon on the top menu bar and then select Add-Ons.

Step 2: Subscribe to Application Upgrade Add-On

Scroll down to find and select the Application Upgrade add-on from the Add-Ons list. Click on the edit icon next to it to subscribe.

Step 3: Starting Up the Process

After clicking on the edit icon, you have to select the application you want to upgrade. Enter the desired version (otherwise we will assume the latest) and hit Start Upgrade Process.

Important

The cost of the upgrading varies between applications. Please review the cost before starting the process.

This will generate a new ticket on your behalf with the title Cloudways Application Pre-Upgrade Information. Please give all data requested on the ticket.

When we have this data, we will assess the upgrade process for you using our ticketing framework, till the very end, fulfilling all vital steps.

That’s it! We hope this article was helpful. If you need any help, then feel free to search your query on Cloudways Support Center or contact us via chat (Need a Hand > Send us a Message). Alternatively, you can also create a support ticket.
