How to Enable Zend Guard Loader in Cloudways

Cloudways frequently introduces new features based on customer feedback. In doing so, Zend Guard Loader is one of the new features that can now be enabled on your Cloudways server.

Zend Guard Loader is a popular PHP extension that can be used to run PHP scripts encoded by Zend Guard. Each web server needs to have the extension installed to run files encoded with Zend Guard licenses. Zend Guard Loader can now be enabled via Server Settings in the Cloudways console.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to enable Zend Guard Loader in Cloudways.

How to Enable Zend Guard Loader in Cloudways

Step 1: Navigate to Server Management

Log into the Cloudways Platform with your credentials. Click on Servers in the top menu bar and then select the target server from the list.

Step 2: Enable Zend Guard Loader in Cloudways

  1. Select your server and go to the Server Management area.

  2. Select the Settings and Packages section.

  3. And click on Advance as shown below.

Now scroll down until you see Zend Guard Loader.

At this point, you will notice that the Zend Guard Loader is disabled. Just flick the switch to Enabled to enable Zend Guard Loader. Scroll down and click on Save Changes.

Zend Guard Loader is now enabled on your server.

Important Notes

  • PHP 7 is not supported by Zend Guard Loader; it’s a native limitation and not set by Cloudways.

  • IonCube Loader will be disabled since Zend Guard Loader will be used in its place.

  • If Zen Guard Loader is disabled, IonCube Loader will be enabled by default.
