How to Monitor Your Application and Plan Resources in Cloudways Autonomous

Learn how to monitor application and plan resources in Cloudways Autonomous, including visits, bandwidth, disk usage, and application limits.

Written by Syed Abuzar Mehdi

Cloudways Autonomous provides detailed resource-monitoring tools to help you track usage across individual applications and your overall hosting plan.

You can monitor key metrics such as monthly visits, bandwidth consumption, disk space, and the number of installed applications directly from the Cloudways Platform.

Regularly reviewing these metrics helps you understand your resource consumption, identify applications or database tables using significant storage, and take timely action before reaching your plan limits.

This article explains how to monitor your application and plan resources, review detailed usage insights, and manage your Cloudways Autonomous plan more effectively.

How to Monitor Your Application and Plan Resources in Cloudways Autonomous

Your Cloudways plan has a fixed amount of applications, monthly visits, disk space, and bandwidth you can monitor using the Cloudways Platform.

To increase your plan resources, you will need to upgrade your plan. However, if you exceed your monthly allowance for visits, disk space, and bandwidth, the overages will be billed in your next invoice.

Please note that your applications will not suffer any downtime or failures due to excessive usage of resources.

How to Monitor Your Application Resources

Cloudways Autonomous provides application-level analytics to help you track visits, bandwidth consumption, storage usage, and the files or database tables occupying the most disk space.

Step #1 - Open Your Autonomous Applications:

  1. Log in to the Cloudways Platform using your registered email address and password.

  2. From the left navigation menu, select Autonomous.

  3. Open your applications using either of the following options:

    • Click My Applications under the Autonomous section.

    • Click the Autonomous card displayed on the Home dashboard.

Both options direct you to the My Applications page.

Step #2 - Select an Application:

On the My Applications page, locate and select the application whose resource usage you want to review.

The application listing may also provide a quick overview of its:

Step #3 - Open the Performance Section:

After selecting the application:

  1. Click Performance from the top navigation menu.

  2. Select Resource Usage from the left-hand menu.

The Resource Usage page displays your application’s visits, bandwidth, and storage consumption.

Understanding Application Resource Usage

At the top of the Resource Usage page, you can view the following totals:

Total Visits

Total Visits shows the number of visits recorded for the application during the applicable usage period. Visits help you understand the amount of traffic reaching your website.

Monthly visits are generally calculated using unique IP addresses according to the Cloudways Autonomous usage model.

Total Bandwidth

Total Bandwidth shows the amount of data transferred between your application and its visitors.

Bandwidth is consumed when visitors load website content such as pages, images, scripts, stylesheets, videos, and downloadable files.

Total Storage

Total Storage shows the disk space currently occupied by the application. This includes:

  • Website files

  • Media files

  • Plugins and themes

  • Application-generated files

  • Database content

Bandwidth Usage

The Bandwidth graph provides a visual representation of the application’s data-transfer usage.

Use this graph to:

  • Review bandwidth consumption over time.

  • Identify unusual increases in data transfer.

  • Understand how website traffic affects resource usage.

  • Determine whether your current plan is suitable for the application’s requirements.

For newly launched applications, the graph may remain empty until sufficient usage data becomes available.

Disk Space Usage

The Disk Space Usage graph shows how the application’s storage consumption changes over time.

It can help you identify:

  • Gradual increases in application storage.

  • Sudden growth caused by uploads, backups, logs, or cached files.

  • Whether the application is approaching the storage allowance included in your plan.

For new applications, usage insights may not appear until sufficient data has been collected.

Disk Space Breakdown

Scroll down to the Disk Space Breakdown section to review which application folders and database tables are using the most storage.

This section is divided into the following areas:

Top Five Folders

The Top 5 Folders table displays the folders within the application’s public_html directory that consume the most disk space.

The public_html directory is the application’s primary web-root directory and contains its website files. Depending on the application, the table may include folders such as:

  • wp-includes

  • wp-content

  • wp-admin

The section also displays the application’s current file-storage usage.

Reviewing this information can help you identify oversized media directories, cache folders, logs, plugins, themes, or other files that may require cleanup.

Top Five Database Tables

The Top 5 Tables section lists the application’s largest database tables.

The table may include entries such as:

  • wp_comments

  • wp_posts

  • wp_options

  • wp_users

This information helps you identify database tables that are consuming significant storage and may require further review or optimization.

The section also displays the application’s current database usage.

Refresh Resource Data

Click Refresh to retrieve the latest available disk-usage information.

The refreshed values may not always reflect changes immediately because resource data can require some time to process and become available on the platform.

How to Monitor Your Plan Resources and Billing

The application Overview page provides information about your current Autonomous plan, month-to-date estimated charges, resource-overage costs, autoscaling charges, and recent resource activity.

Step #1 - Open the Application Overview:

  1. Log in to the Cloudways Platform.

  2. Select Autonomous from the left navigation menu.

  3. Click My Applications.

  4. Select the application associated with the plan you want to review.

  5. Click Overview from the top navigation menu.

The Plan Overview section appears below the application details.

Understanding the Plan Overview

The Plan Overview section displays your current plan and its estimated billing information.

1. Real-Time Billing

Real-Time Billing shows an estimate of your month-to-date charges.

The estimate may include:

  • Your current plan cost.

  • Charges for resource usage above the plan’s included allowances.

  • Additional costs generated by autoscaling.

Because this is an estimate based on current usage, the final amount on your invoice may differ.

2. Plan Cost

Plan Cost shows the recurring cost of your selected Cloudways Autonomous plan.

Your current plan name, such as Growth or Scale, is displayed in the upper-right corner of the section.

3. Resources Overage Cost

Resources Overage Cost shows estimated charges generated when resource usage exceeds the allowances included in your plan.

Depending on your plan and usage, overage charges may apply to resources such as:

  • Visits

  • Bandwidth

  • Storage

4. Autoscaling Cost

Autoscaling Cost shows the estimated additional cost generated when Cloudways Autonomous automatically scales computing resources to handle increased application demand.

Autoscaling helps maintain application availability and performance during traffic or workload spikes. Charges are incurred only when additional autoscaling resources are used.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do plan resources refresh?

The plan resources reset on the first day of every calendar month as determined by the server time in the UTC timezone.

What happens if I exceed my plan resources?

Your Cloudways plan has a fixed number of applications, monthly visits, disk space, and bandwidth.

To increase your plan resources, you will need to upgrade your plan. However, if you exceed your monthly allowance for visits, disk space, and bandwidth, the overages will be billed in your next invoice.

Please note that your applications will not suffer any downtime or failures due to excessive usage of resources.

What if I don't want to pay the overages?

You can monitor your application and plan resources proactively and upgrade the plan when you are close to reaching the threshold.
