In this KB article, you will learn about fixing the very known 401 Unauthorized Access Error of the Magento Application. This error usually comes when you are accessing the Web Setup Wizard.

The error is due to the HTTP and HTTPS protocol issues. If you have noticed that when you are on the Admin panel dashboard, your browser will show HTTPS but when you go to the web setup wizard, it will redirect to http due to which you will see the error as shown below:

How to Resolve Magento 401 Unauthorized Access Error

Step# 1

Sign in to the Magento Admin Panel with your credentials.

  • Click here, if you want any information about your credentials.

  • Click here, if you want to know how you can access your Admin Panel.

Step# 2

Now to resolve the issue, please follow the instructions written below.

  1. Click Stores.

  2. Then, click Configuration.

3. Click on Web

4. Click on Base URLs (Secure).

5. Uncheck both boxes of Use system value located in front of Use Secure URLs on Storefront and Use Secure URLs in Admin.

6. Select Yes against all the below-mentioned options. Also, check the reference image below:

  • Use Secure URLs on Storefront

  • Use Secure URLs in Admin

  • Enable HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS)

  • Upgrade Insecure Requests

7. Finally, click Save Config.
