How to Request a Managed Application Migration

You get one FREE managed migration with your Cloudways account, where we do the heavy lifting for you and migrate your site in one piece with no bugs guaranteed.

Managed migration can be requested using a pre-installed add-on. This migration process is applicable only if you have SSH, SFTP, FTP, cPanel, or hosting credentials. If you have a directly downloadable application and database backups, you can open a support ticket to help track your migration request.

Please note that any existing application data will be overwritten/replaced. Below are the steps mentioned to help you request a managed migration.

Step #1 — Launch Application Migration Add-on

Log in to the Cloudways Platform with your credentials. Once logged in, you need to deploy your target application (i.e., if you want us to migrate a WordPress site, then deploy a new WordPress application). If you have already deployed a new application, then you can go ahead.

  1. In Classic Interface, open the Grid menu from the top and select Add-ons. In New Interface, select Add-ons from the left menu.

  2. Select the Application Migration add-on from the list.

    In the New Interface, this action will lead you to the main Add-on homepage; thus, click Submit Your Application.

Step #2 — Submit Migration Request

In Classic Interface, you can only submit migration requests for Cloudways Flexible. However, if you use a New Interface, you can select Cloudways Flexible or Cloudways Autonomous, depending on your choice of where you will host your migrated application.

  1. Select your target application from the drop-down menu. In the New Interface, please select your Product as well. The option to choose a Product will only appear if you are a user of both Products.

  2. Then, click Next.

    Here, you need to enter your website details.

  3. Enter your Application Domain Name. [e.g., mydomain.com]

  4. Enter the URL of the Admin Panel/Area.

  5. Enter the Admin panel Username.

  6. Enter the admin panel Password.

  7. Click Next to continue.

    Important

    Suppose your application contains a nested application/subsite or uses a subfolder that is subordinate (using a different database) to the main application. In that case, you should toggle “Does your application contains a subsite?” and provide a path where the subsite exists. Subsites are distinct from the main site and would be considered separate migrations that are charged separately.

    If you have a PHP or Laravel application that uses a CMS/back office, use the toggle “Does your application has a CMS/Backoffice Admin?” and enter the required information and click Next.

    You can select the connection type you would like us to use to fetch your site files and data for migration. There are five supported connection types.

    If your preferred/supported connection type is not listed, then select the “Other Hosting” option.

    For this example, we will use the SFTP connection. Other connection types are straightforward and self-explanatory.

    You need to enter the following information.

  8. Select your Connection Type. [e.g., SFTP]

  9. Enter the username.

  10. Enter the password.

  11. Enter the Host IP or the Address. [e.g. 127.0.0.0.1]

  12. Enter the port number. [e.g., 22]

Migrating MySQL Database

If you wish to move your MySQL database during the migration process, then enter the following details under the “Do you have phpMyAdmin?” question. It is only valid for SFTP and FTP-based connections.

  1. Enter the username for the phpMyAdmin connection.

  2. Enter the password for the phpMyAdmin connection.

    When it's finished, please click Next.

    In the final screen, you must provide additional application details that would help the support engineers during the migration process.

    • If you wish our engineers to perform specific application-level checks after the migration, enter the details in the text area labeled, “Would you like us to perform any specific checks to test the migration?”.

    • Finally, enter any additional comments and details in the final text area labeled “Additional Notes.”

Migrating Existing SSL Certificate

If you wish to migrate your existing SSL certificate, click “Do you have your own SSL certificate?” This will enable the following fields:

  1. CRT Content — Enter the SSL certificate CRT content here.

  2. KEY Content — Enter the SSL certificate KEY content here.

Finally, click Submit. Once you submit this form, our support engineer will reach out to you within 48 hours to talk about the migration schedule and other details.

Important Notes:

  • Your application data will be deleted thirty (30) days after you fill out the form.

  • If you have directly downloadable application files and databases, open a support ticket to help you track the migration request.

  • Application migration is not available during the trial period. You can upgrade your account to claim your free migration.
