Renaming your application folder on Cloudways helps you better organize and identify your applications, especially when accessing your server using SSH or SFTP.
By following the simple steps in this guide, you can assign meaningful folder names without affecting your application’s functionality.
As the platform maintains both the old and new folder references, you can continue working without any disruption or risk.

What Happens After Renaming Your Application Folder
After renaming your application folder, you may notice two folders when accessing your server via SSH or SFTP. This is expected behavior:
New Folder Name: This is the updated folder name you selected. It is a symbolic link (symlink) and does not take up additional disk space.
Old Folder Name: This is the original folder name. It remains as a hard link and does not need to be deleted.
This setup ensures your application continues to work smoothly without any disruption.
That’s it! We hope this article was helpful.
